Time Heals All Wounds?

They say, “time heals all wounds.” I disagree. Time has a way of lessening the gouge we feel, but some wounds will never heal until we step out into eternity, leaving behind all worry and fear. Unfortunately, we live in a fallen world, surrounded by fallen people. The attitude can be “kill, or be killed.” Others will climb over us to reach the heights they choose, leaving behind the shattered pieces they created. We find ourselves drowning in the aftermath of a decision made by someone else. Their life seemingly forges forward, unscathed, while our own comes to a screeching halt. We wake up each morning with their sin wrapped around our shoulders like a filthy cloak, weighing us down as if thousands of boulders were tied to the collar. It can feel as if we are the only ones hurting. Damaged. Forsaken.

Social media is a proverbial “Pandora’s Box,” causing us to believe we are a captive tossed about in a sea of dread, while others sail yachts of limitless bliss. We must remember, behind the perfectly poised snapshots, buried beneath the carefully manicured surface, lies concealed brokenness within each of us.

Broken relationships, betrayal, shattered marriages, wayward children… the list can go on and on. We find our only hope in the One Who created us.

“Hear My cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle forever: I will trust in the cover of thy wings.” Psalms 61: 1-4 *KJV
